Oh, well, you may be missing the fact that you don't *need* to attach
the \sustainOn to the chord, you can put it in a standalone Directive
(see Directives menu) placed after the chord. That might not be so nice
if you want to copy and paste the chord with its sustain on marking
(well, you have to pick up both objects).
