Hmm, actually there is the third, in fact the completely generic way you
do this:
Place the cursor where you want the 1&2 marker and click

Directives->Insert LilyPond

in the dialog box paste

\set Score.repeatCommands = #'((volta "1 & 2")) 

(always a good idea to put a space before and after the text)

This will then insert that bit of LilyPond. The display is not pleasant
for this insert, but it should typeset fine.
