Creating a survey for improving the FSD

Hello directory-discuss,

We are in the process of making several changes/improvements to the
Directory and we could use your feedback. To help guide and inform
this process we are putting together a survey which will go out to a
wider audience. The first step is to get feedback from
directory-discuss not only about suggestions for the Directory, but
suggestions on what we want to learn through a survey. The Directory
logs over 50,000 unique visits per month, and we want to learn more
about who uses the Directory as well as how and why they use it.

There are two separate projects at play here:

First: we are looking to modernize the look and feel of the Directory
with an updated theme. I've attached a screenshot of the leading idea
for the new theme, and for reference it will likely be modeled after
the [End Software Patents wiki][#].

Second: after the new theme is deployed, we are planning on improving
the materials of the Directory. This would include pages such as
[participate][ ] and [requirements][ ]. Generally speaking we are
looking to increase volunteerism by making participation easier for
newcomers to get started.
