GNUstep actually supports garbage collection:

Perhaps this makes GNUstep more convenient for you?

Dunno why GC is used rarely. Myself, I feel uncomfortable with 
"automatic" collection as well, so ...

... perhaps you can show us a path to faster and more reliable coding?
