Another point that should be considered is that there are no more releases correcting bugs for 5.3 version. So it could be the case that 5.4 and 5.5 functions behave in a different way than 5.3 (which could be a problem).

Since the end-of-life announcement is quite recent, it won't be a problem right now, but supporting old versions could lead to many problems.

Hi

Until now we do not use PHP feature like Traits only support in PHP 5.4, but may be it could come specially in external module. After that the magical function and other stuff are supported in 5.3, so far so good.

The major point is to be sure that there is no use of deprecated PHP 5.5 from 5.3 code into Dolibarr.
We have to avoid the same mistake done by vTiger only comptible with php 5.2 and cannot be installed or use on 5.3 or higher. It is a major point for an ERP being compatible with last technical version, can you imagine deployed production ERP on Windows 95 ? (Ok it is extreme compare but it work as commercial argument).

For the moment as I know Dolibarr work from 5.3 to 5.5 so may be no hurry to "needed PHP 5.5", but must be aware to not introduce deprecated code. It is just a matter of short time before hosting service provider migrate to 5.4, they do not have choice.

Hi

Maybe the question should be : "it's needed or not ?" Why force to
upgrade php version if is not required yet with dolibarr use ?

Some associatives or local hosters provide dolibarr service, and we
can't know if they provide everytime last php support version.
