byacc is probably 1.9 - does the following command yield anything? 
        rpm -qa | grep bison

If so, what version is bison?

I'm currently using 1.28 on Red Hat 7.2

this morning I update the sources from CVS, and everything went fine ! :)))
I could compile and run my first helloworld program!
