I am not sure if any change should really be made here, and his
solution seems sort of clunky, but could you please think about it?
Perhaps "erase" should leave comments alone, and the way to get
rid of a comment should be by deleting the text of it.

Dear Emacs
Suppose I have customized a variable. The STATE button gives me
the option to Erase the customization.
Unfortunately, this ALSO erases the comment that I just wrote,
explaining (to me) why I don't want to touch this variable and want
its default value.
So perhaps this isn't a bug report, but rather a feature request.
Could you put-in *two* erasures under the STATE button? Maybe
Erase customization value
Erase customization value and comment
I suppose one also might want just
Erase customization comment
NOTE: Sometimes I don't actually want to erase the customization;
I just want to know what the default value is. Within Custom, is
there a fast way to see the dft value WITHOUT erasing the current
value?
