Using an Emacs configured with --with-x-toolkit=lucid does not have this problem.
-8<----------If the problem is still present in gtk3, and a comment on the bug suggests it is - https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=85715#c55 , I guess gtk3 emacs daemon mode should spit out a similar warning (if it doesn't already, I haven't got as far as trying a gtk3 emacs build yet).
