With branches, yes, but not with master, unless denyDeleteCurrent has been set to warn or ignore.denyDeleteCurrent is only relevant for non-bare repositories (a bare repository has no checked out branches).
Wrong. A bare repository has a current branch too: it's the branch that you get when you clone it.
