It is good to offer both options. However, the question of which
version to check out, and in which repo, makes a big difference. A
prefix argument is easy to forget, and if you get the source for the
wrong version (wrong for your purposes), you may not recognize that it
is the wrong version.
I think we need to have two command names for these two things to do,
and each command name should make the difference clear.
