Thanks Jambunathan and Mikhail,
The problem is with the font stuff and, strangely, with desktop.
I need to comment out the region dealing with fonts, and the following
line to make the tables align.
(desktop-save-mode 1)
Has anyone else had a problem with use of desktop-save-mode?
