I'm running Emacs 24.3.1 and org-mode 8.2.4, both from Debian testing. By bisecting my Emacs configuration I've found out that the culprit is
(setq org-startup-indented t)When indented mode is disabled, the overlays appear with brown text on
yellow background. Can you reproduce this? Christoph
