Can you explain how this is different from a "task" associated with a
project page?  I also don't know what you mean by "Deadlines can be
stored in the calendar"?  Are you referring to diary entries?  

What I do is put appointments in the diary (and use planner-diary to
display them on my plan page).  Project deadlines are built into the
tasks for that project.  

Perhaps you need something more fancy then that?  If so please give
an example of what you think it should look like?
