Follow-up Comment #1:

With ESPResSo 3.0, we have deprecated the checkpointing commands. The reason
is that the commands have not been maintained for a few years, that we have a
second similar mechanism (the blockfiles) in place, and that we think that a
generic mechanism that creates real checkpoints is possible in a script driven
environment.
