Hi everybody!

In the aftermath of this year's CECAM ESPResSo tutorial, we have had a
bit of a discussion on how next year's tutorial shall look like.

As the title of next year's tutorial is "Simulating Soft Matter with
ESPResSo, ESPResSo++ and VOTCA", we thought it important that
ESPResSo++ and possibly VOTCA get some more room in the schedule.
Furthermore, we got the feedback by some of this year's participants,
that some of the lectures and tutorials were too involved for beginners,
while some were to basic for more advanced users. Also we noticed that
there were next to no advanced users at the tutorial.

Our ambitious goal is to make next year's tutorial interesting for both
beginners as well as advanced users of ESPResSo/++. Therefore we decided
that in the next year we want to have two parallel tracks of lectures
and hands-on sessions most of the time, so that the participants can
choose their track according to their interest and previous knowledge.

Also, instead of having lectures in the morning and hands-on sessions in
the afternoon, we plan to have two three-hour blocks per day, one in the
morning, one in the afternoon, each dedicated to a single subject that
will typically consist of a lecture first and a hands-on session
afterwards. Only on the first day, the hands-on sessions are somewhat
extended.

Our first outline of the tutorial looks as follows:

Day 1
-----
9:00 - 10:30
  Welcome and Introduction

11:00 - 12:30
Track 1: Lecture: Introduction to Python
Track 2: Lecture: ESPResSo: Under the hood
           (Code structure, Development, Implementation details)

14:00 - 17:00
  Track 1: Hands-on: Python
Track 2: Hands-on: ESPResSo code development

Day 2
-----
9:00 - 12:30
Track 1: Lecture: Introduction to ESPResSo
Hands-on: Intro to VMD, Compiling ESPResSo, LJ fluid
Track 2: Lecture and Hands-on: Introduction to ESPResSo++

14:00 - 17:30
Track 1: Lecture: Introduction to ESPResSo 2
Hands-on: KG polymer melt, other features
  Track 2: Lecture and Hands-on: Introduction to ESPResSo++ 2

17:30 -
  Poster session and BBQ

Day 3
-----
9:00 - 12:30
Track 1: Lecture: Electrostatic interactions (Ewald and P3M)
           Hands-on: Charged systems
Track 2: Lecture and Hands-on: ADResS

14:00 - 17:30
Track 1: Lecture and Hands-on: Electrostatic interactions 2
           (MEMD, MMM*D, ELC)
Track 2: Lecture and Hands-on: VOTCA

17:30 -
  Conference Dinner

Day 4
-----
9:00 - 12:30
Track 1: Lecture and Hands-on: Hydrodynamics (LB and DPD)

We would be happy if anybody of you has comments on these plans, and we
also want to inform all people that might be involved in it already now.

Best regards

  Olaf
