RPMs are made on RH7.3 box, so sure there may be this kind of errors if
you install them in other distribution. I suggest you to build GC RPM
for yourself:
rpm -tb --target i686 gnome-commander-0.9.8.tar.gz
If you want to switch FAM support off - you have first to hack %build
section of .spec file:
./configure --prefix=%{prefix} --with-fam=no
and repack the tarball.
