GLUE's core requirements correspond to those defined by Douglas Engelbart,
the original 60's "inventor" of groupware:
http://bootstrap.org/augment/ALLIANCE/980.html
While not complete, Engelbart's "OHS Technology Template" gives a good
overview of the system (or framework) that is also envisioned for GLUE.
GLUE will build heavily on the web's "low-level" protocols, such as HTTP,
basically following the design philosophy for which Roy Fielding has
recently coined the term "REST":
http://internet.conveyor.com/RESTwiki/moin.cgi/
Note that REST is a different philisophy that XML-RPC/SOAP: REST is based
on URL namespace design rather than remote function calls:
http://www.xml.com/pub/a/2002/05/08/deviant.html
It turns out that GLUE and phpGroupWare are very different projects,
after all.
Yours,
Markus.
