As far as using ALSA, it seems to be OK.
I tested on Gentoo and Ubuntu today, the patch works on both. I also
tested on console running on single user mode, the patch works fine with
"-r 2" option.

Tomorrow, I will test on FedoraCore, SUSE and NetBSD.
