swscale was in mplayer for a long time. mplayer and ffmpeg share developers and 
code... ffmpeg imported it in August 2006. old ffmpeg snapshots (and hopefully 
svn revisions from that time) will have imgresample and imgconvert.

i brought this up because if anyone adds yuv>rgb acceleration for embedded 
systems, in the future there will be no more imgconvert. so its best to add the 
optimizations for libswscale.

i may not have got all of the details correct, so if you have more questions,
