Hi Gnash Dev Team,
I am new to FSF ideas, but I would like to help. I'm not sure what I
can offer, so I'll tell you a little about myself. Please let me know
if there is any way you can use me.
Your Gnash project caught my eye because I recently joined youTube.com.
I would like to be able to move away from reliance on DRM and
proprietary software, and still enjoy youTube.com and other popular
computer/Internet niceties.
My educational background is in math/biology/computer science and
liberal arts. My hobbies and interests include graphic arts, and
animation, and recently audio manipulation. I am a better editor than I
am a writer. I am trying to resurrect rusty programming skills,
primarily because I enjoy it, but also because I'm becoming increasingly
frustrated with the black box model of technology products.
My programming skills are probably not what you're looking for, per se,
but to some extent I can speak the language. I have a little python,
some C, C++, and Unix. I dream of writing python plugins for my
Lightwave 3D animation package (I should probably be using Blender), but
I've yet to make that a reality. I have toyed with Linux and Cygwin.
I have used DOS, and Windows through XP. I have never worked on a large
scale programming project, other than some modest projects of my own.
I became interested in FSF because I am concerned that centralized
control of information technology, on a global scale, is moving us
toward instabilities, that are widely unrecognized and
under-appreciated. Distributing the methods of information technology
as facilitated by the FSF can help to diffuse this emerging cultural
instability. Free Software and its approach, serves to damp the
explosive growth in power of the industrial juggernaut our culture has
built, while preserving the promise of technology.
If you need something I can provide, please keep me in mind.
Thanks for the great work you are doing, and good luck,
Rich Bleakman
