There are two OpenGL backends for Cairo. The old one has serious
performance issues, and I believe the new one is still under development.

I have a GLES1 render as a patch somebody sent me, but it's based on
Gnash 0.8.5. I may beat it into shape after OpenVG is complete. Course
with an OpenVG renderer, GLES1 may not be worth the effort, and GLES2 is
much better anyway.
