I am sure there is a bug. I got the tarball 0.8.10 from http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/gnash/ whereas there isn't tarball 0.8.10 and is tarball 0.8.9.

Are you talking about the tarball downloaded from the GNU ftp server ?
There should be no need to run ./autogen.sh with that one, while it's
required when you're building from the git repository.
