May I request you to note that you are opening a vast door for multilingual 
translation of GNU/Linux and applications.
I would like to see that indian language versions can come up fast.

I am keenly watching this possibility.
I have to make some attempt to download the CD.
Currently some of our networks were troubled with virus from M$Windows systems 
though networks were on linux boxes.
So it will take some time before I can get the download.

Hi,

  After the last week I'd like to get a status info for every
sub-project of gnoppix.

Installer:
     I'm going to start working on the installer in the next weeks. I
     just take to old bash-script and extend it with zenity to be more
     easy usable.

Themes:
     Johannes Rebhan told me that he likes to create a gnoppix desktop
     theme for GNOME. I would really love to see a gnoppix desktop that
     looks almost as good as a ximian desktop.

Debian packages:
     Do we still want to have our own set of debian packages or do we
     want to switch to the existing GNOME backport. In my opinion it's
     more useful if we switched to James Strandboge's backport as he
     seems to have more time to maintain the port and as gnoppix may
     be a very useful environment to test/check and maybe fix his
     packages.

Hallo!

Habe soeben mit Herzi gesprochen. Ich wollte wissen, wie man das GNOPPIX
Projekt unterstützen könnte. Herzi meinte, ich solle mich an diese Liste
wenden.

Ich denke vor allem an die Bereitstellung einer Build-Umgebung aber auch
die Mitarbeit am Projekt selbst.

Ich hätte auch einen Sponsor für ca. 50.000 CDs. Wir muessten diese nur
sehr schnell fertig haben, ansonsten wird man auf eine KNOPPIX CD
zurückgreifen (müssen).

Was wäre ein frühstmöglicher Fertigstellungstermin?

Hi,

  sebol from gnome irc asked me whether we can provide a language
selection during the startup process. I'm currently thinking on how we
should implement this.

  My idea would be that we try to get a graphical lilo on the disk and
let users choose between languages (can't we set some variables there?).

  Another solution would be that we abuse runlevels for that: e.g. have
2 = en, 3 = de, 4 = fr, 5 = es, 6 = display a small language selection
dialog.

  here are some issues I found with the current gnoppix release:

 * fix the $PATH (include /usr/games for standard users as debian
   does)
 * do we really need balsa? isn't evolution enough?
 * compile abiword-gnome with libgucharmap (compile option)
 * enable language selection (i would prefer to have this at the
   boot prompt)

  Nice idea, but I don't think that this matches our targets. Debian
GNU/Linux is a really cool distribution, because it's easily
maintainable and it's a very clean distribution, any foreign
contribution (such as a garnome build) makes this clean distribution
just more dirty.

  In my opinion it's not THAT important to have a running GNOME 2.4
environment if we can focus on other (important) missing stuff.

  You say that you've got some experience with Knoppix already, then we
might have this task for you:

  GNOPPIX is still kind of a german only GNOPPIX as we don't provide any
way of selecting a language yet. My idea would be that we set a variable
on boot-time (via lilo selection). This way we can have the following:

  Some (~5) predefined selections (english, german, frensh, spanish, one
more *g*) in the lilo boot screen that set a variable lang={en,de,fr,es}
that can be set from command-line lilo too (for all the other
languages).

  Then we can have one init-script that gets this variable set
neccessary environment variables and writes neccessary files (like
/etc/environment).

  So, what do you think?

  Hrmm, well, this one looks nicer than the lpp; I really like the idea
of being able to switch from the "user view" to a "devel view" that
helps to debug stuff. Andreas, what do you think?

folgende Dinge sind mir beim Arbeiten mit gnoppix gestern aufgefallen:

   * Die Möglichkeit, die Konfiguration auf Disk zu speichern, habe ich
nicht gefunden o. fehlt dieser Punkt noch

   * XMMS benutzt stdmäßig. das DiskWriter Plugin für die Ausgabe

   * Mausrad funktioniert nicht, trotz wheelmouse option

   * Die automount geschichten funktionieren auch nicht

   * Beim Starten gibt es ein Problem mit dem Mixer_Applet

   * Warum sind bitte zwei Python Version (2.1 u. 2.2) installiert, eins
müßte doch genügen

   * Nochwas zu Python: das Python GTK Paket heißt pygtk und das Python
Modul dazu heißt gtk (z.B. in allen Dokus, Tutorials u . FAQs) oder ist
das wieder eine abart von Debilian?

   * Bei Themenauswahl wird kein gtk1 theme gesetzt dadurch sehen
Programme wie Gimp, XMMS usw. beschissen aus (das funkt auch bei Ximian)

   * KDE Menü könnte auch raus (weil gnoppix u. nicht knoppix)

   * Man könnte schonmal mit dem Gedanken spielen, Gimp 1.3.2 bzw. 2.0
draufzupacken, die 2er soll doch demnächst released werden

   * Als Browser würde sich auch galeon2 anstatt galeon1 oder gleich
epiphany anbieten


Falls ihr Hilfe braucht, ich kenn mich gut mit python und ein wenig gut
mit pygtk aus, aber zum Glück gibt es ja noch Glade.
