No, the moral equivalents of the slave "traders" are the Western
anti-globalists, who believe that temporary disruption when retraining
for another job are unacceptable price for a trade that will bring ten
families in the undeveloped countries out of poverty.
These anti-globalists are divided into two camps:
The honest camp, which consist of right wingers. They believe that
the convenience of a white western person is more important that life
of any number colored people in the third world. They may even
acknowledge that the trade also help people in the western world in the
long time, but they are still against it as it help colored people
even more.
The hypocritical camp, which consist of left wingers. These people
cannot admit to themselves that they worm their opinions based on
short sighted, egoistic reasons. So instead they invent a fantasy
world where outsourcing is evil, by comparing working conditions in
outsourced companies with western standards, rather than with the
local alternatives.
As a programmer, I happen to work in an area with lots of outsourcing.
And I know the Indian programmers who get the jobs. They are on the
net, we can talk to them here. And they are, of course, happy for the
jobs, which give them a salary that allows them to live at a level not
to far away from a western middle class family, given living cost in
India is much lower. They get less "hardware", but can afford more
hired help. This means many more people hare helped by the
outsourcing, than just those who get one of the jobs.
All the countries who receive the outsourced jobs are experiencing a
rapid increase in living conditions. Which mean at Danish export to
these countries is booming, creating jobs here at a rate similar to
what is outsourced.
Of course, the hypocrites ignore all this, only seeing the selfish
annoyance in the transition, and inventing stories in which they are
heroes rather than monsters for siding with the racist against the
globalisation.
