Dan,
I'd say the link/load-ordering problem is no longer an issue, so
configure-testing for ordering shouldn't be necessary. (But it never hurt
to do as an exercise.)

Either built or installed, some native modelgen would be required,
just up to you how to handle it. I'm not intending to cross-compile
anytime soon!
