Have you tried to compile this on an IBM mainframe? It would not surprise
me if:
01 A.
05 B.
10 C PIC X.
04 D.
05 E PIC X.
actually receives a compiler error on an IBM mainframe, as it would (maybe)
treat "D" as a group item at the 05-level with no subordinate elementary
items below it, before the next 05-level.
I have NOT tried this, but I think this might cause an error on the
mainframe.
