Works fine here.
Make sure you are using the 0.33 prerelease from :
http://www.sim-basis.de/open-cobol-0.33.tar.gz

> cat /etc/SuSE-release
SUSE LINUX 10.1 (i586)
VERSION = 10.1

> rpm -qa |grep gmp
gmp-devel-4.1.4-18
gmp-4.1.4-18

Snip from configure -
checking gmp.h usability... yes
checking gmp.h presence... yes

Also check that you have the Berkeley DB installed -
db-devel-4.3.29-15
db-4.3.29-15
