I've posted the latest oracle patch at:

With this patch the metamachine starts to look useful.

As an example, try:

gnugo --quiet --metamachine -l tactics05.sgf --limit-search S7 -t 
      --color white -o vars.sgf

The file regression/games/tactics05.sgf is the (renamed) file
submitted by Nando. GNU Go likes a move at T9 but S8 is
much better. The metamachine generates a small movetree
and finds the right move by minmax search. Only moves in
the vicinity of S7 are considered.
