I'm trying to get gpsd to recognize my Garmin etrex vista (RS232 serial interface) attached to my netbook running Ubuntu 12.04. The connection is made by means of an RS232-usb adapter (prolific pl2303). The serial communication is working ok as I can see data putting the gps in NMEA mode.
I've been running gpsd un foreground to see the debug info and I can see that the daemon is trying to autodetect the gps but for some reason this is failing (after a number of minutes trying). I'd like to know if there's a way to override the autodetect funcion and set the device type by hand. I'm aware of gpsctl buy the behaviour is the same (as with other clients).
Thanks in advance!
