thanks for your answer. sorry for my late reply.

can you point me to an URL ?
or some details for what i should search ?

you getting any PPS at all?

i think so.
for NTP i run rpi_gpio_ntp -N 1 -g 18
and ntp sync's very well
+127.127.28.0 .GPS. 0 l 7 16 377 0.000 -1.955 1.171
*127.127.28.1 .PPS. 0 l 38 64 377 0.000 0.017 0.008

offset in peerstats for 127.127.28.1 is typical below 20 micro seconds
i wrote a shell/awk/gnuplot script which shows this as graph very well.

how ?
as i wrote, originally i used for gpsd version 3.6
with version 3.6 there are no errors in the syslog.
these messages came with version 3.15

when i reboot the banana pi i see in the kernel log like this:
gps0 kernel: [ 10.724635] pps_core: LinuxPPS API ver. 1 registered
gps0 kernel: [ 10.745687] pps_core: Software ver. 5.3.6 - Copyright 2005-2007 Rodolfo Giometti <address@hidden>
gps0 kernel: [ 20.286845] pps_ldisc: PPS line discipline registered
gps0 kernel: [ 20.291317] pps pps0: new PPS source serial2
gps0 kernel: [ 20.294876] pps pps0: source "/dev/ttyS2" added

it's armv7l GNU/Linux version 3.4.103

do you have any further tips for me ?

kind regards
hans

these servers should be used as ntp server.

The RasPi takes seom etra configuration to get right. Be sure to read
the gpsd specific doc on the RasPi.

but i see also the following in the syslog:
Jul 1 23:42:42 gps0 gpsd[2195]: gpsd:ERROR: KPPS:/dev/ttyS2 kernel
PPS failed Connection timed out
Jul 1 23:42:45 gps0 gpsd[2195]: gpsd:ERROR: KPPS:/dev/ttyS2 kernel
PPS failed Connection timed out
Jul 1 23:42:48 gps0 gpsd[2195]: gpsd:ERROR: KPPS:/dev/ttyS2 kernel
PPS failed Connection timed out

Your PPS is not as good as it needs to be. No RFC 2783 support. Are
you getting any PPS at all?

reading http://www.catb.org/gpsd/installation.html
i see it falls back to user ID nobody.
for my opinion it has not enough privileges. maybe the old version
had a different behavior.

KPPS is opened before dropping privs.

is there a way to force this daemon to run as root ?

No need, just start as root.

this error msg is not nice and it fills up the syslog.

Yeah, you need too fix your KPPS.

The interesting thing, ntp is still working perfectly accurate.

How do you know? Without KPPS you are losing precision.
