Who is looking after these at the moment please?

I note that if you try and use

.DS 1
.EQ LABEL
equation
.EN
.DE
that EQ does not respect the right margin, or more correctly, distance
from the left margin to the right margin which a "DS 1" has done.

Basically EQ seems to think that it has the whole page to exploit. But the 
use of the 'DS 1' has shrink the left margin, and hence the effective line 
width. This means that an equation number on the right hand side goes past
the right margin.

Specifically, in the macro

        eq*check

it tries to do some horizontal movements to which it then appends
the equation number LABEL (in my example)

        \h'|\\n[.l]u'\\*[eq*label]

I can send some examples if you need them.
