Without trying to complicate the discussion, I used .\" Not \# The former is a pure comment. It does not enter into any processing. As I understand it, any number of these comments, i.e. a line beginning .\"should be able to be inserted (and assumed ignored) into the text anywhere inside a troff, or groff document, except within those preprocessor pairs such as PS/PE, EQ/EN, and probably strictly TS/TE.
