Thanks Ludo’. I tried both approaches:

In the g1 user account I did git pull, "make clean && make". I ended up
with guile 2.2. But when I tried to reconfigure as root I got the
"activation.go failed:" messages.

So, as root, I tried guix pull (please see below). I still ended up with
"activation.go failed:" and now I have guile 2.0.
