I have used the deadpan 'history' for years and never had second
thoughts. It is the branch with which all others share their history.
History is something that happens. There are no notions of superiority
or control that would remain with 'main'.
I came up with the name in the motherland of language police (SF Bay
Area). No one ever complained. Have courage! It can be done.
