Ok, finally had the opportunity to try loom.

Seems like a very good start.

A first comment:

The one step away is too little for rdf.  We need at *least* the 
analogue of stub connectors from zz, i.e. if a new node is going to be revealed
when you take a step, you should at least see a stub at that point, both 
backwards and forwards. As it is, I feel lost in even small structures..

A vanishing-like view might be even better.
