class value expansion error?

The following fails to define a class but it should work:

classes:

 any::

  samba_is_setup = (
FileExists(/usr/local/lib/samba/var/runflag.$(host))
FileExists(/usr/local/lib/samba/var/runflag.$(fqhost)) )

The debug output makes me suspect that the variable expansion
causes cfengine to not check that FileExists() is a function.
