CURDIR was added in GNU make 3.77.
PS. Note the NEWS file in the make distribution is a great way to
quickly catch up with new features/development.
Searching the GNU make manual for "current working directory" would
have also got you there; use "s" in an Info browser to search the
manual... HTH...
