Help with GNU Make

I am trying to install GNU make on Platform AIX v4.3.3, so I can build GCC. I have downloaded GNU Make 3.80. When I run configure it looks for gcc and cannot find because I haven't installed it yet. The install also talks about running build.sh but the only file I have that resembles that is called build.sh.in.

I would appreicate a few pointers in order to get up and going
