compile fails trying to install make

Hello All,
I am running Mac os x 10.2.5 (darwin6.5 I believe) on my powerpc g4 
notebook.

I have installed the apple developers kit to get gcc. Now I need to 
install make.
I ran configure, which ran without any errors.
Then I ran build.sh, and I get the following:

compiling version.c...
compiling vpath.c...
compiling hash.c...
compiling address@hidden@.c...
gcc: ./address@hidden@.c: No such file or directory
gcc: no input files


Any help in this regard would  be greatly appreciated.
