concatenate words with no space

Can anyone provide a method to concatenate a directory listing into a
list of directory names separated only by semicolons without any
spaces? I have

incs=$(subst /,;,$(sort $(dir $(wildcard */*.h))))

which gives something like

 main; app; db;

but I need

  main;app;db
