Ah, well, that's interesting. The "bad" one is running MacOSX which is
a derivative of BSD: not Linux related in any way. Perhaps there's
something different about the system calls available on MacOSX such that
we aren't able to close things properly.
If you can send me the config.h file (privately is fine) from the Darwin
build I'll take a poke through it and see if I can spot something.
