How exactly are you invoking nano? (Paste it here.)
What version of nano? (Paste the full output of 'nano --version'.)
Did you compile nano yourself?
What terminal (emulator) are you using?
When you run 'nano --ignore --guide=11 /etc/group', does nano complain
about an unrecognized option? If not, there should be an inverse-video
stripe in column 11.
