I have not looked in the code if we treat this special in hyperbole but if you 
in your .emacs (or customize) configure your ls to us the -F option you might 
be able to control this using the variable `dired-ls-F-marks-symlinks'

My ls does not tag symlinks with @ when -F is applied so I can't easily 
recreate this.
