[igraph] igraph_1.0.1.tar.gz compile problem

When I try to install igraph_1.0.1.tar.gz in R 3.2.2, I fail with the following 
compile error:

ERROR: compilation failed for package ‘igraph’

This is with gcc version 4.1.2 20080704
on a RHEL 5.11 cluster running R 3.2.2

Can anyone point me in the correct direction?
