That means that CVS couldn't find a password in ~/.cvspass that exactly
matched $CVSROOT, so it tried to log in with no password and that
failed. The most likely reason for it not being able to find a matching
password is that there's some subtle difference between the $CVSROOT
you used for login and the one you're using to do the real work. How
about showing us an exact transcription of what you're doing?
