WINCVS - red icon (Modified file) won't go away |

In WinCVS, I have an engineer whose files are showing up with the red
icon (meaning a modified file). But after he does an update (and CVS
reports the file updated in the status window) it still shows up as
red.
So I had him delete the file, and check it out again, and it still
shows up as red (i.e. modified) even though it is a fresh copy from
the repository.
Any ideas? Thanks for any help...
Noel
