What I've done in this situation is to treat it like a 3rd party source
project. Periodically, I'd export the project and send it to the
customer. The very first time, I'd immediately import that on the
vendor branch to establish a baseline. Then, whenever I get stuff from
the customer, I import it, merge, and commit the results. Since you're
merging, you don't have to stop development waiting for them.
