But now the problem is I cannot checkout only the files with a particular tag because the directory structure cannot be gotten rid of;
if you already have checked out source, then you can use "cvs update" command:
cvs update -r TAG_NAME <module_name> or cvs update -r TAG_NAME <file_name>also, speciying "-P" option would help. it prunes empty directories from the local copy.
