I generally do something like this:
===========================
find . -type d -name CVS -prune -o -type f -name "*.[Ffh]" -print -exec
cvs rm -f {} \;
# this doesnot "cvs remove" files under CVS directories...
cvs ci -m"removing all Fortran files under dir"
cvs up -P
