incorrect From field

Subject: incorrect From field
Date: Sun, 28 Oct 2007 16:59:19 +0000
User-agent: Gnus/5.110006 (No Gnus v0.6) Emacs/21.4 (gnu/linux) 
As I write this message the From field says 'From: Joe Bloggs 
<joebloggs@nowhere.invalid>', however as you can see, after posting it has 
changed to the group name.
Why? and how do I make it behave properly.
